Democrats playing presidential politics instead of solving financial crisis - "Tanking deal in order to pin failure on John McCain (Updates)

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Via Ace:

Just over FoxNews. The spin? John McCain's presence has been "destructive," he has not suspended his campaigning, (Says Dodd and Reid, as I also watched - comment inserted) he has merely imported it into the Capitol, and if the deal falls apart (which Democrats are busy working on!), "John McCain deserves most of, if not all of, the blame."

Chris "CountryWide" Dodd calls it a "a rescue plan for John McCain."

"Extremely contentious." "Extreme anger." House Republicans are sticking to their free market fantasies and inviting calamity. (Write these bozos, please.)

Per my inserted comment, I watched the same thing on one of the public channels, and couldn't believe what I was hearing. It's incredibly obvious that they are doing exactly what they say they don't want to happen - inserting presidential politics into the negotiations. These people have no honor, and observe no normal decorums whatsoever.

So what really happened in the room? We have this from Marc Ambinder:

Though Sen. Chris Dodd (and "sneaky and deceitful" Harry Reid - comment inserted) implied that Sen. McCain sandbagged the rest of the negotiators by bringing up alternative proposals, McCain himself did not bring up those proposals, according to four independent sources briefed by four different principals inside the meeting, including two Republicans and two Democrats.

"McCain has not attacked the Paulson deal," said a third Republican who was briefed by McCain direclty. "Unlike the [Democrats] in the [White House] meeting, he didn't raise his voice or cause a ruckus. He is urging all sides to come together."

Republicans like John Boehner brought up the concerns of House GOPers and McCain acknowledged hearing about their concerns. And McCain, and staffers, did seek to gauge the level of support of the GOP working group's white paper. The Democrats were left with the impression that McCain endorsed the GOP efforts, but they concede that he did not raise them directly.

The fact is that Boehner doesn't have 100 votes from his conference -- 100 votes that Nancy Pelosi really wants. And that's not McCain's fault.

But Boehner and the White House -- and McCain -- if they want to get something passed -- do have the responsibility to persuade these Republicans to support the bailout.

Update via PoliPundit:
The White House summit apparently blew up when McCain indicated support of an alternative option, a more free-market-oriented proposal being developed in the House. If there was ever a time to hammer the Congressional switchboard, it's now!

Dear Abdul:

I believe that this link provides insight into the reluctance of Congressman Barney Frank's concern with the presence of John McCain in this financial crisis resolution:

http://realtime.sunlightprojects.org/2008/09/23/financial-bailout-whos-minding-the-store/

Please note the absence of John McCain's name to the recipient list in the link. Most of those listed as recipients are members of the senate & house oversight committees.

My opinion can be read on the Akaka Bill 2 thread.

Let us not forget that a meltdown of our economy is in fact something the Democrats not only want, but have feverishly worked for all throughout Bush's two term, and that they would consider it a "Feather" in their despicable "Bolshevik" hats if, adding insult to injury, they can also turn around and blame the present economic calamity they have so asiduously been "crying wolf" about for the last eight years - since way back when the economy was booming and even illegal aliens were buying half-million dollar homes - on Bush!

The Democrats have no interest in solving the present economic crisis. The "Big Brother" Democrats salivate over such crises as an
"opportunity" to expand their secularist bureaucracy, their power over the economic lives of people, and their control over their lives, as people, worried about their financial stability and survival, become more willing in the face of such economic hardships to surrender their liberties to the Democrats' thinly veiled
"socialism" and resign themselves to greater government control and intrusion into their lives in the face of uncertainty!

The Democrats are enjoying each and evey convulsion of our economy, would only wish it would worsen so that they could implement ever more blatantly Marxist social policies, and look at this crisis affecting so many millions of Americans, not as a great calamity, but as a ticket to the White House!

They are so despicable! I don't understand how anyone with two cents worth of common sense can ever fall prey to their empty Utpoian rhetoric and their "machinations" and vote for the damn hypocrites!

Why is it that I have this sick feeling in my gut that the Democrats are coming out like roses with all the media spin in their behalf, and America is going socialist and down the f*****g tube?
