About Those 'Two Stories" Obama Wishes Would Just Go Away But Won't (So he engages in class warfare as a diversion) - Updated

Topics: Political News and commentaries

While "so-deep-in-the-Obama-tank-I-can't-see-straight" writer Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic (I have to admit to enjoying most of his work) is getting "tingley feelings" over Obama's jumping all over John McCain's "too-many-homes-to-count-so-check-with-my-staff comments," (Obama so loves class warfare) and could be on the verge of wetting himself over the excitement of the possibility of writing yet another post on the topic (after all, he's already written 3 today - here, here, and here ), Jennifer Rubin at Commentary writes of much more serious stuff, such as two stories that Barack Obama should be devoting his attention to instead of trying to play clown with a McCain gaffe; we're talking here about Obama's Infant Born Alive controversy and his attempt to revise his own legislative past, and the refusal of the University of Illinois release records pertaining to Obama's association with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a charitable educational venture, which was co-founded by the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, Obama's neighbor and colleague:

As if Barack Obama did not have enough problems there are two stories that just won't go away, and both spell trouble.

First, slowly but surely the Infant Born Alive controversy and Obama's attempt to revise his own legislative past is coming to light. This is a straightforward account. The McCain team has yet to make much hay from this, but I suspect they'll have plenty of time to talk about it as the election grows near. Because of the explosive nature of the subject matter and because it touches on growing concerns about Obama himself--namely that he is not being honest about his past-it has the potential to unsettle more voters than just the pro-life segment of the electorate.

Second, we have another story now popping. Why won't the University of Illinois release records pertaining to Obama's association with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a charitable educational venture, which was co-founded by the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, Obama's neighbor and colleague. To make matters deliciously worse, Mayor Bill Daley steps in and, in essence, says "What's the big deal?" and "Everyone has friends." (Hint: Don't trot out Daley when there are books floating around that question your reformer mantle. People might associate you with strong-arm, non-transparent, old-school politics.)

Together these stories, at the worst possible time, begin to raise the possibility that Obama is not the pristine New Politician he makes himself out to be. In both cases there may be an underlying, damaging issue. But it is the reaction of Obama which is so telling -- lie, cover up, don't disclose a darn thing.

Hmmmm....; help me out here, Marc, how does that old saying go? Something about people that live in glass houses? And does Barack really want to talk about houses?

I really wouldn't think so, especially since in response to Obama's glee over McCain's "too many houses to count" comment, the flood gates have now been opened and Team McCain is "going for the balls":

"Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses? Does a guy who worries about the price of arugula and thinks regular people "cling" to guns and religion in the face of economic hardship really want to have a debate about who's in touch with regular Americans?"
Post Script: Uh oh ...., I did mention glass houses, didn't I ? Team McCain has just given the green light for full Rezko oppo drop: OBAMA'S HOUSING PROBLEM" - "Brought To You By Convicted Felon Tony Rezko" - Obama Engaged In Deal With Convicted Felon To Get Deal On House That Had Four Fireplaces And A Wine Cellar.

Here's the RNC's pdf.

Update: Marc Ambinder makes me eat a little crow for essentially calling him "unfair and unbalanced." His post McCain Prepares Rezko Ad; Wright "Now Fair Game"; GOP 527 Attacks helps to offset the three posts in one day on Obama's attacks on McCain for not knowing how many houses he (actually his wife) owns.
