A side by side comparison of Sarah Palin's resume to Barack Obama's (and what the heck is a 'community organizer'?) (Updated)

Topics: Political News and commentaries

The video is best viewed in screen view:

ATS puts the difference in a nutshell:

Palin is the Chief Executive of an entire state. Obama never was chief executive of anything.

Palin is commander of the Alaska National Guard. Obama has no similar experience.

Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Obama has no similar experience.

Palin is chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee. Obama has no similar experience.

In fact, in the last 18 months while Palin was working on solutions to the energy problem Obama has been running for office.

Clearly, Sarah Palin has much more experience than Barack Obama, both in shear volume and, more importantly, (Palin's) relative experience. The areas she is lacking in are limited to not having a penis and not being a lawyer - and there are some of our population that may not think that's so bad.

By the way, we keep hearing a lot about Barack Obama's "experience" as a "community organizer." If you've like me and have been wondering just what the term means, especially since Obama talks about it so much as though it's somehow relative to experience that applies in some way to that which would be useful as POTUS, you may be surprised. In other words, "What do community organizers actually do? How do they do it? And how has Obama's experience as a community organizer shaped his run for the presidency"?

"One of my fundamental beliefs from my days as a community organizer is that real change comes from the bottom up ... And there's no more powerful tool for grassroots organizing than the Internet."

-Barack Obama

Hearing the touchy-feely sound of "community," you may assume organizing has something to do with community service, like working at a homeless shelter.

But there is nothing touchy or feely about community organizing. It has more in common with the brutal contact sport of Chicago politics than it does with any kind of charitable act, such as serving food to homeless people. And like the neon-green relish that garnishes a Gold Coast dog, community organizing is pure Chicago.

Saul Alinsky: Godfather of modern community organizing, cleaning up cesspools by appealing to self-interest

The history of community organizing begins in the slums of Chicago's South Side in the 1930s, when Saul Alinsky organized the people who lived in the Back of the Yards, the neighborhood Upton Sinclair wrote about in The Jungle. Alinsky was himself a South Sider and knew that the Back of the Yards was not only one of the worst slums in the country, the neighborhood was also, as he put it in a 1972 interview for Playboy Magazine, "a cesspool of hate: the Poles, Slovaks, Germans, Negroes, Mexicans and Lithuanians all hated each other and all of them hated the Irish, who returned the sentiment in spades."

That was fine with Alinsky. His goal was not to get the people he organized to love each other, just work together. As Alinsky once put it, "to [expletive] your enemies, you've first got to seduce your allies."

Alinsky's key insight was that while poor people who lived in places like the Back of the Yards do not have access to traditional forms of power, they do have numbers. He believed that if enough poor people realized it was in their interest to work together and fight for particular issues, they could pressure people in power to give them what they want.

By all means, do continue reading. You'll find that being a community organizer is the furthermost thing from anything remotely related to American democratic ideals that you can find to do.

Republicans take home the cake in 2008! Everyone is excited to jump on the McCain and Palin ticket! Best was to put this is: This sure "fuels" the debate!

Indeed, it does fuel the debate, and I agree about there being folks willing to jump on the M/P bandwagon, I just hope that there's enough of them. My wife has been a Hillary supporter, to my dismay, but this election we'll be voting the same tickey - McCain Palin. Needless to say, we'll have a few less arguments in our household.

What's funny is that she can't wait until the M/P bumper stickers and pins come in locally - she's already called and can't wait to get a bunch of them to pass around. She now even wants to campaign for McCain. Go figure.

Look Sarah has no law degree and she has a degree in Journalism. You could report on the government, but she is not suitable for vice president. There have been many great Governors that have not been Letigators such as Ronald Reagan. However, he inspired the world to change and possessed the ability to communicate with world.

Here's the problem with Sarah Palin...

No Law Degree

She is not Carismatic

and she abuses her position like the Bush Administration....

Being Governor of Alaska is nothing like being the Governor of California that has the 5th largest economy in the world.

Where's Ronald Reagan when we need him...

Why didn't the Democrats pick Palin instead of Babbling Barry? Is it because she is pro-choice? She is even a Union member!

When I review the parade of shady characters that the Democrats have propped up as leaders in last two decades or so, I cannot imagine how they survived as a political party.

The Democrats have to blitzkrieg with a smear campaign on this gal, or they may never return to the White House in the 21st Century.

Harry, the Dems would never pick a centrist, much less anyone center-right. Throughout the recent history of the Democratic Party they've consistently put up leftists, and have gradually gone further and further to the left. This time they've gone so far as to put up a Marxist, and done so with a straight face and no hint of shame.

Are you serious? Do you realize that she has had absolutely no power as "commander of the Alaska National Guard"? She has not had a single action with them - nothing! And you call that experience???

Obama has been working on state and national issues for 12 years - Palin has for less than 2.

Obama has been working on national health policy for 4 years - Palin has never had a reason to even think about it.

Obama has been discussing and writing potential Iraq policy for 6 years - Palin said she was "too focused on Alaska".

Obama has been on the Foreign Policy committee for 4 years, wrote several successful U.S. Senate bills relating to foreign policy, has a degree in foreign policy, and his first job out of college focused on foreign policy - Palin has never even studied foreign policy.

Obama wrote significant crime legislation relating to the death penalty and racial profiling while in the Illinois senate - Palin's entire state is smaller than Chicago's inner city.

Obama worked on disaster relief measures with Republican Tom Coburn - Palin has handled a disaster.

We could go on and on.
