What Does 'Staging A Prayer' Say About A Presidential Candidate? (Updated)
Topics: Political News and commentariesIs David Axelrod and the rest of team Obama, and especially Obama himself, so obsessed with winning an election that even a supposedly private prayer at the wailing wall is the subject of stagecraft, like the rest of the Axelrod-created myth and persona of Obama? Apparently so.
As Jonah Goldberg writes at The Corner, what initially seemed to be a journalistic scoop of dubious moral propriety now seems to be a case of an Israeli paper being played by the Barack Obama campaign.
I don't know about the rest of the center-right, but this comes as no surprise to me. While some folks may have bought-in "hook, lyin, and sinker" that Obama is a Christian and a spiritual man, I've never fallen for the charade. Anyone that can sit in Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years and buy-in to that Black Nationalist nonsense is so far removed from the very fringes of Christianity as to have no clue what Christianity is about. For Obama, everything is only an accessory, and over the course of his life he has used everything from citizenship or religious or national identity as it suited him for self gain.
It should seem obvious that Obama "uses" religion just like he wanted to use the visit to Landstuhl, for appearance and political purpose. Clearly, Obama is of the group of politicians that undertake good deeds and embrace spirituality most when they can bring their campaign reporters and photographers along or when the "effort" is part of a staged political event as we now learn of the note Obama left in the Kotel - that publication of the note was pre-approved for international publication by the Obama campaign, leading to the conclusion that the "private" prayer was intentionally leaked for public consumption.
Is there anything about Obama that's real?
Not really. Let there be no doubt that Obama's campaign reflects all the attributes of a truly great political ad: the stirring words, the beautiful pictures, the simple and elegant storyline of a ruined political system and the man whose moment has arrived, Obama as "Christian," Obama as "man of the world," and Obama as whatever suits him for the moment that gets him votes. However, the "ad" that is Obama the man is nothing less than stagecraft, and whether it be religion, patriotism, family values, or anything else for that matter - nothing is beyond Obama's reach in perpetuating the Axelrod-created myth, and there is no one and no thing that Obama isn't willing to use or discard or wear on his sleeve, so long as it "suits" him. Yet, what many American have so far failed to realize, is that the "suit" is empty, it's not even sufficiently half-full so as to offer an excuse for being perceived half-full.
