Obama's Naivete' In Foreign Policy Fast-Becoming A 'Horrid Display Of Diplomatic Incompetence And Dishonesty'
Topics: Political News and commentariesThis week, Obama's key foreign policy advisor, Susan E. Rice, told the New York Times that Obama would not meet at the presidential level with Iran or any other so-called "rogue" state without the preparation to use such a meeting as leverage for change. In fact, it was only right-wing machinations or imagination that "distorted and reframed" Obama's views. (There go those damned "right wingers" distorting and reframing Obama's views again - the ones he puts out and then tries to say he never said only it's on videos, tapes, and in print)
In her piece this morning at Commentary, Jennifer Rubin has much to say about Obama's latest foreign policy goofs and the clumsy, ridiculous, absurd efforts of Susan Rice to cover for him:
[...] Susan Rice, Barack Obama's foreign policy advisor, is at it again. She is on a mission to save Obama from himself, insisting that he never promised to meet with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad-and that he never said without preconditions.Noteworthy is that Rice's version of truth conflicts with the facts. Nothing could have been clearer than Obama's response to Anderson Cooper during the YouTube debate. The bizarre additional explanation this time is that it was some other unnamed leader of Iran he may have had in mind for a get together. Two problems :1) it is a lie and 2) huh? As to the first, there is ample documentation-from Obama's own mouth-that it was Ahmadinejad he had in mind and that he would meet without preconditions (in the first year of his presidency, no less). The media has been reporting as much for a year and it was a prime source of disagreement with Hillary Clinton. If his campaign persists in this line of defense, he risks not just losing the foreign policy debate but his reputation for practicing the New Politics. (In other words he will, in the eyes of the public, not simply be a novice in foreign policy, but a liar.)
[...] In short, this is fast becoming a horrid display of diplomatic incompetence and dishonesty. In the YouTube era this sort of amateurish dissembling simply won't do.
(Transcript) COOPER: In the spirit of that type of bold leadership, would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries? Senator Obama?Checkmate!
OBAMA: I would..
