McCain's Speech Outlines Why His Base Will Stay Home On Election Day
Topics: Political News and commentariesMichelle sums it up in saying McCain's problem is that he has allied himself, for the unprincipled, empty cause of "bipartisanship," with people and causes that move our country in the wrong direction.
As for me, I don't think I'll be wasting the gas it takes to get to the voting booth, on an Obama-lite. Unless, of course, he can be resuscitated along with the rest of the GOP by adopting GOP 2.0. In the meanwhile, McCain's present positions centering around trying to out Obama Obama - as evidenced in his speech today, are a significant turn-off for independents and conservatives alike. Apparently, he doesn't get it - he's not running for the Democratic primary.

I really don't understand this mindset. In other words, it is better not to vote for John McCain and allow Barack Obama to win?
I don't see where this is patriotic or even honorable.
I also feel if a person does not vote in an election, they have no right to even open their mouth to complain about what happens afterward.

Pink Flamingo is right, of course. I'm just extremely ticked off at our choice of candidates: one a far-left, closet marxist - the other a somewhat moderate Democrat passing himself off as a conservative.
Indeed, itis better to vote for John McCain rather than allow Barack Obama to win; in doing so I feel like I'll be voting for the lesser of two bad choices. However, what I wrote about the GOP base still stands. Undoubtedly, without a candidate that gives something for independents and conservatives to vote "for," instead of just a "prevent Obama" vote for an Obama-lite, much of the GOP base will simply take a pass.
Is it "right" to do so? No, but people traditionally turnout to vote for candidates that stand for something they share and can claim ownership with , not to stop another candidate from wining.
