Editor of Syrian Government Daily: Israel Is a "Poisonous Mushroom"; "[Its] Rightful Owners Are Capable Of Uprooting It - If Not Today Then Tomorrow": Meanwhile, Olmert Strikes Up Kumbaya With Syria
Topics: Political News and commentariesIn a recent editorial in the Syrian government daily Teshreen, the paper's editor-in-chief, 'Issam Dari, attacked the Western leaders who attended Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations. He wrote that the leaders of the "imperialist" countries - the U.S., Britain, France, and Germany - had gone to Israel in order to stress "that they would continue to sponsor this poisonous mushroom that they planted in the Arab garden with the aim of sowing destruction, chaos, terrorism and crime in the Arab world." He added that although these leaders sought to convince the world that Israel was an established fact, Israel would nonetheless be uprooted sooner or later.More at Memri ...
This comes as Syria and Israel have begun the Turkey-brokered dialogue of creating a comprehensive peace and ending the Golan Heights dispute. As evidenced by the comment of the editor of the Syrian government daily, the Arab and Iranian hatred of Israel is far too deep-seeded and virulent to ever result in a peace by dialogue. Like taqiyya, it's nothing more than a hudna while Iran completes the development of it's nuclear arsenal.
Perhaps Olmert has forgotten a couple of Islamic concepts - ones that he will soon be all too well aware of, and that Israel will come to never forget:
Taqiyya ― Islamic Principle of Lying for the Sake of Allah:So, will the talks get anywhere? According to Amir Taheri - not likely:"Concealing, precaution, guarding." It is employed in disguising one's beliefs, intentions, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions or strategies. In practical terms it is manifested as dissimulation, lying, deceiving, vexing and confounding with the intention of deflecting attention, foiling or pre-emptive blocking."Hudna:Arabic word often translated as "cease-fire.- Historically used as a tactic aimed at allowing the party declaring the hudna to regroup while tricking an enemy into lowering its guard. When the hudna expires, the party that declared it is stronger and the enemy weaker. The term comes from the story of the Muslim conquest of Mecca. Instead of a rapid victory, Muhammad made a ten-year treaty with the Kuraysh tribe. In 628 AD, after only two years of the ten-year treaty, Muhammad and his forces concluded that the Kuraysh were too weak to resist. The Muslims broke the treaty and took over all of Mecca without opposition.
One should never lose hope, but the chances of peace breaking out remain low. Syria can't easily abandon Iran, something that Israel is demanding as a precondition. And Israel can't commit itself to handing back the Golan Heights, which Syria insists upon as a precondition.Regimes of opposite natures can never make peace with one another. At best, they can reduce tension and, perhaps, conclude a cease-fire. Right now, though, even that remains a remote possibility as far as Israel and Syria are concerned.
