Khamenei: 'Islamic world can become global power, West is 'backward''Topics: Iran
As Robert Spencer explains, the unity of the umma (Community of the Believers" - the whole Muslim world) is one of the primary goals of the jihadist movement, and once the umma is unified, there will be no legal barriers (from either a Sunni or a Shi'ite standpoint) to offensive jihad against the West. And restoring the unified authority that would allow for the waging of offensive jihad against western civilization is exactly what Khamenei, Osama, and their ilk - the rest of the Islamists - have in mind:
The Islamic world could become a major global power through unity and promotion of all-out cooperation, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who concluded his visit to Iran later in the day.
President Yudhoyono arrived here Monday afternoon heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation.
During his stay, five documents were signed by Iranian and Indonesian officials on bilateral cooperation.
"The world of Islam can become a global power through unity and promotion of political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation," stressed the supreme leader.
Criticizing Washington for using force against other countries, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "Submission to hegemony of world arrogance is the cause of their backwardness."
