Incredibly Gullible Left Buys-In To Obama's Switcharoo: Obama And His Pastor Aren't Racist - It's The Rest Of Us.

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Obama truly does have a silver tongue, at least in the eyes of the gullible, Kool aid-drinking left, the media, and the center-left. He twists and turns a speech supposedly addressing his relationship with his racist pastor into one that somehow convinces the gullible among us that it's not him and his pastor that are racists - it's the rest of us. Hell, there are even some that actually believe Obama's speech to be some kind of "Rorschach inkblot test" for the nation: Groups Respond to Obama's Call for National Discussion About Race

The real truth about Obama's speech is that it's a Rorschach test speech only because you can make it whatever you want it to be - and what we're seeing is actually something beyond that. For the gullible, mostly Democrats and the center-left, the speech is about their racism instead of that of Obama and his pastor.

Obama has passed himself off as the candidate who "transcended race," but in fact he's now the candidate of race and made race the main issue of the Democrat Party. It apparently escapes the minds of Obamassiah affectionados that what Obama needed to respond to was never about race; it was about the hatred of Jeremiah Wright and Obama having not only chosen him as his pastor - but attended his church for 20 years.

Shelby Steele's take on Obama and his chosen pastor nails Obama for what he is - a manipulating, two-faced, hustler:

... How does one "transcend" race in this church? The fact is that Barack Obama has fellow-traveled with a hate-filled, anti-American black nationalism all his adult life, failing to stand and challenge an ideology that would have no place for his own mother. And what portent of presidential judgment is it to have exposed his two daughters for their entire lives to what is, at the very least, a subtext of anti-white vitriol?

... What could he have been thinking? Of course he wasn't thinking. He was driven by insecurity, by a need to "be black" despite his biracial background. And so fellow-traveling with a little race hatred seemed a small price to pay for a more secure racial identity.

... No matter his ultimate political fate, there is already enough pathos in Barack Obama to make him a cautionary tale. His public persona thrives on a manipulation of whites (bargaining), and his private sense of racial identity demands both self-betrayal and duplicity. His is the story of a man who flew so high, yet neglected to become himself.

As Michael Gerson wrote at the WaPo today, "In Philadelphia, Obama attempted to explain Wright's anger as typical of the civil rights generation, with its "memories of humiliation and doubt and fear." But Wright has the opposite problem: He ignored the message of Martin Luther King Jr. and introduced a new generation to the politics of hatred."
