CIA Director Hayden: Pakistan Border Poses 'Clear And Present Danger' To WestTopics: Pakistan
The obvious question that comes to mind here is what took the CIA so long to come up with this "not-so-brilliant," quite obvious to "anyone who knows the area and has even half-ass access to intelligence from there" - revelation!
The situation in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan where al-Qaida has established a safe haven presents a "clear and present danger" to the West, and the next terrorist attack on the U.S. is likely to originate from the region.Given that Hayden's brief appears to be the result of recent observations and intelligence, I can't help but wonder if his analysts were aware of Troubles on the Pakistan-Afghanistan Border, written back in 2006, in which it was noted:
The Taliban has a robust sanctuary in Pakistan's tribal areas and this is a major factor in their resurgence. The tribal areas have historically been "no-go" zones for the Pakistani military, and the Pakistan armed forces have not performed well in operations there since 2004. More disturbing is the panelists' observations that since 2005, Pakistan appears more ambivalent about pressuring the Taliban and rolling back their protected zone. And long before the time of the writing of the above-mentioned piece it was so well known that al-Qaeda and the Taliban were in collusion that Pervez Musharraf made a peace deal with tribesmen and militants, known to be allied with the Taliban and Al Qaeda (in the border region) - and did so in September 2006. The signing of the deal essentially amounted to a total capitulation to the Taliban and al-Qaeda, and greatly contributed to the problem existing today that's the topic of Michael Haydens proclamation that the area represents a "clear and present danger" to the U.S.
Capitulation to terrorists only results in their emboldenment and a subsequent growth in terrorism. When are we going to learn that you for Islamists, a hudna is just that - a hudna, a temporary peace while they regain the upper hand over their enemy!
And their enemy is "US," democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and anyone that disagrees with their theofascist beliefs.
