Teddy Bear Jihad Continues As 'British Seek Pardon for Teacher in Sudan'

During her trial, British teacher Gillian Gibbons said she had intended no harm. Her students, overwhelmingly Muslim, chose the name for the bear, and Muhammad is one of the most common names for men in the Arab world. Muslim scholars generally agree that intent is a key factor in determining if someone has violated Islamic rules against insulting "their" prophet:

But the case was caught up in the ideology that al-Bashir's Islamic regime has long instilled in Sudan, a mix of anti-colonialism, religious fundamentalism and a sense that the West is besieging Islam.

The uproar comes as the U.N. is accusing Sudan of dragging its feet on the deployment of peacekeepers in the western Sudanese Darfur region.

Meanwhile, the teddy bear jihad continues and the British are working feverishly to save Ms. Gibbons and have her pardoned before the Islamic nutjobs either behead or shoot her.

Frankly, except for the fact that this poor teacher was stupid enough to go where sharia law exists in the first place and is now caught up in having her life threatened by an ideology more appropriate for the Middle Ages than the modern world, I don't give a "Tinker's damn" about what factors are or are not involved in sharia and Islamic rules, and whether intent or otherwise is involved. All I know is that sharia has no place in the West or the modern world, nor is it important in the practice of any other faith on the planet, except that of Muslim extremists, and kowtowing to this nonsense gets none of us anywhere but more at risk from Islamic fanatics.
