CIA Destroyed Videos Of CIA Interrogation Tapes And We're Suppose To Give A Crap? (Updated)

Topics: War on Terror

The media is all a buzz that the CIA destroyed videotapes it made in 2002 of the interrogations of two top terror suspects because it was afraid that keeping them "posed a security risk, and of course, as we've come to expect, it has caused a commotion on Capitol Hill where members of the Senate Intelligence Committee immediately vowed to conduct a thorough review.

armstrong.jpgAs for me, I'm just unable to give much of a crap about what politicians in Washington think about CIA interrogation videos. On the other hand, I might care a tiny bit more if only Capital Hill and members of the Senate Intelligence committee would be as concerned about all those chopped off heads, cut off arms and legs, and torture tapes that our enemy - the radical Islamists, keep producing and propagating in the name of Islam (see also: Mujahideen Desecration: Beheadings, Mutilation & Muslim Iconoclasm.)

Related: Remember Nick Berg? (Video if you dare to watch it) If he and all the other beheaded victims of radical Islam still had their heads and could talk - you could ask them if they'd rather be waterboarded or beheaded. Just a guess on my part, but I'm betting they'd chose being interrogated by the CIA and anything they had to offer.

100% Agree, excellent article. The left-wing media is all about attacking President Bush. Now, last night browsing thru my favorite websites - hyscience.com always on top - I check the americasnewstoday.com and they had a another excellent if not neutral artcile about this issue - here is a portion:

The agency made the decision to destroy the tapes "only after it was determined they were no longer of intelligence value and not relevant to any internal, legislative, or judicial inquiries," Hayden said.

"Beyond their lack of intelligence value -- as the interrogation sessions had already been exhaustively detailed in written channels -- and the absence of any legal or internal reason to keep them, the tapes posed a serious security risk," Hayden said. "Were they ever to leak, they would permit identification of your CIA colleagues who had served in the program, exposing them and their families to retaliation from al Qaeda and its sympathizers."

The director said the Office of the General Counsel and the Office of the Inspector General examined the tapes in 2003 and determined the interrogations were lawful. Hayden also said the leaders of the CIA's congressional oversight committees were informed "years ago" of the videos and the agency's intent to destroy them.

"What matters here is that it was done in line with the law," he said. "Over the course of its life, the agency's interrogation program has been of great value to our country. It has helped disrupt terrorist operations and save lives. It was built on a solid foundation of legal review. It has been conducted with careful supervision. If the story of these tapes is told fairly, it will underscore those facts."

So when you report the news in a fair and balanced way all makes sense. Thank you hyscience for what you do.

Good link, Jason Triple B.

Our friends on the left seem to forget that the CIA is meant to be Clandestine, and that the cold war was not won by constantly tying the hands of our intelligence agencies and telling the world about our methods and resources.

And neither will the war against radical Islam and it's state sponsors, Iran chief among them, be won by tying the hands of our intelligence agencies and telling the world about our methods and resources.
