Breaking: Does John Edwards Have A Love Child On The Way? (Updated)

Topics: Political News and commentaries

UPDATE 3 - The National Enquirer has pulled the story from their website. Is Clintonista Ron Burkle involved?

UPDATE 2 (HT Dan Riehl):

The woman linked to Presidential candidate John Edwards in a cheating scandal is more than six months pregnant and telling a close confidante that Edwards is the father of her unborn child, The NATIONAL ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

The NATIONAL ENQUIRER's political bombshell comes just weeks after Edwards emphatically denied having an affair with Rielle Hunter, who formerly worked on his campaign.

But The ENQUIRER has now confirmed not only that Rielle is pregnant, but she is also living in Chapel Hill, N.C. in a gated community, just a few streets away from Andrew Young, who has been a key official in Edwards' campaign.

Young has been in charge of looking after Hunter, according to sources, and she has been careful to stay out of sight during Edwards' campaign. A former Director of Operations for Edwards' campaign, Young's last official position with the campaign was North Carolina Finance Director. - More at The National Enquirer.

Someone supposedly from the Edwards campaign is denying it - however ........

Hyscience coposter Tim called me from on the road in Wisconsin to tell me that he just heard over the radio via Mark Beliing (AM 1130 WISN) that the National Enquirer is breaking the story that John Edwards has a love child on the way. Drudge has it up as developing ... It could possibly be related to an earlier article published by the National Enquirer on 10/10/08 (HT - SelfLaugh.com):

A source close to the woman, whose name is being withheld by The NATIONAL ENQUIRER, says that she confessed to having an affair in phone calls and emails, saying that her work with Edwards soon exploded into romance. The shocking allegation -- if proven true -- could devastate the Democratic hopeful's campaign, especially because John's devoted wife Elizabeth is locked in a desperate battle with breast cancer.

"The affair started about 18 months ago," a friend says the woman confessed to her. "When they met at a bar, sparks flew immediately.

"She never expected it would turn sexual since John is married and is running for President. But it soon did -- and she fell for him."

In one bombshell e-mail message provided to The NATIONAL ENQUIRER, the woman confesses to a friend she's "in love with John," but it's "difficult because he is married and has kids."

In another e-mail, she writes: "Last night and this a.m., he actually has amazed me. He is a great man. My heart is loud and my head is silenced."

Disclosed her friend: "She initially confided in a few of her closest pals that she was sleeping with 'a married man named John.'

"It became clear the married man was John Edwards. They got together whenever they could, mostly at hotels where Edwards and his campaign staff stayed."

The woman later spelled it out in a phone call to her pal and talked openly about having an affair with Edwards.

Nice guy, and with a wife that's suffering from breast cancer while he's making a baby with a girlfriend!

If true, calling this a presidential race bombshell would be an understatement. As the AP pointed out at the time of the October 10th story: "If John Edwards cheated on his wife it would make him the single worst human being in the history of the world." (HT - Wonkette: John Edwards Did Not Have Sex With That Hippie )

COULD THIS BE THE LOS ANGELES TIMES' SECRET SCANDAL THAT WAS WIDELY DISCUSSED IN THE BLOGOSPHERE?

Surely, more to come ...

Other coverage: Morons In Chapel hill - "Anyone who is surprised at this is an abject fool. Everyone in North Carolina knows Edwards can't keep "Little John" in his pants."

Just think. All along I've been thinking the LA Times story would be about Hillary: Hililary's Connection To Islam (Alternative title: Who Is Huma Abedin And Who Is Funding Her Lifestyle?)

Update at ACE: Story Added; Clinton "Magic Touch?" (We all could have guessed as much.....)

I call this story still in the unsubstantiated rumor stage.

Doug Ross and Jules Crittenden have more.

If this story turns out to be true, the guy deserves to be "crucified" in the media, although, being a Democrat, he's likely as not to be given a pass. But as you point out, still a "rumor" and we'll have to wait and see if this story has legs...

So it might be Barack Obama after all.

The demographic winter is coming to the US.

Rumor has it that Edwards jumped from number 3 to number 1 in the Iowa polls!

I can't discern whether or not Solange's comment is more a spam link or a more a comment, or both. But I'm leaving it up anyway because I believe demographic winter could indeed be coming to the US.

AS for Edwards jumping to #1 in Iowa, hope he goes all the way (pun intended). He's probably the least electable in a general election.
