Best photo of the YEAR for UNICEF

UNICEF has chosen as photo of the year the one shown above in which an 11-year-old sat close to her 40-year-old husband to whom she looks up in fear and distrust. Of course, she was obliged to marry him. The photo by US photographer Stephanie Sinclair, belongs to a series about children's forced marriage and covers this subject in Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Nepal.

The photo says a lot about how girls are valued (not) in Asian and African regions where poor families see their daughters as a burden and as second-class citizens, and a source of revenue.
The poor girl looks scared to death.
