10-year-old student Arrested After Seen By School Faculty Member 'Cutting Her Steak With Knife At Lunch.

This may well be the dumbest thing I've ever heard school officials do in the way of over reaction and poor decision making.

A 10-year-old girl in Ocala, Florida could face a felony weapons charge after she brought a kitchen knife to school with her steak lunch. After being seen cutting her steak at lunch by school faculty, they took the knife away from her before calling the Sheriff's Office and her uncle. Marion County deputies subsequently arrested the girl Thursday at Sunrise Elementary School and took her to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Her uncle, Kenneth Thomas, said the child was distraught by the arrest.

As Bill Jempty notes at Wizbang, rules to keep weapons out of school have a purpose, but using a knife on steak, isn't a crime (nor is it a threatening act). Bill believes that the story deserves more attention, while I believe the school officials deserve some kind of special dumbass award, and, as much attention and criticism that can be rained down upon them.
