When It Comes To Getting Suckered, The New Republic Takes The Cake
Topics: Follies of the Mainstream MediaPajamas Media says that when they heard the authenticity questions surrounding the "Baghdad Diarist" articles by Scott Thomas Beauchamp in The New Republic, they asked their Washington Editor Richard Miniter to look into how the respected opinion magazine could once again be the locus of such a scandal.
The effort by Miniter resulted in an inside look at scandal and the perils of publishing what one insider calls a "sociopath."
And as WakeUpAmerica points out, not only does The New Republic's fact checking suck, after having Mr. Beauchamp's lies exposed, one at a time, instead of owning up to their laziness in fact checking, they continued to stonewall, cast blame in other directions and stand by the original stories.
So one could argue that the stonewalling and blame casting makes TNR just plain stupid, because surely they had to know that bloggers would never let their mistake go unnoticed.
