Surge Working, Dems Move Goalposts

Surely to no one's surprise, when two analysts from the liberal Brookings Institute suggest that military progress is being made in Iraq, Democrats recently visiting Iraq, such as Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, and Washington Rep. Brian Baird indicate that the Surge is working, House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) says an upbeat assessment on the war from Gen. Petraeus in September "would be a problem for us," the Defeaticrats have decided to move the goalposts.

Based upon the Dems desire for America to lose in Iraq, and seemingly on the War on Terror, as well, one could easily be led to believe that they are on the wrong side in this war against radical Islam and terrorism. While no reasonable person could argue that al-Maliki's government has been successful, or has even made progress, and that sooner or later the world needs to face up to the fact that the Iraqi culture is either incapable or not sufficiently mature enough for a democracy, in war we have to accept the fact that success comes in step wise fashion, seldom in one fell swoop, and that military successes may come well before political success.

With this in mind, and especially as an antidote to defeatism in the Democratic leadership, I like Jeff Gannon's counterproposal to the Dems' "move the goalpost" strategy. Replace the Congress.
