Congress tries to pull a fast one on earmark reform

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Dems promised reform and not only have they failed to provide it, things have actually gotten worse.

Chief among the culprits is none other than Jack "The Marines killed innocent women and children" Murtha, the overlord of spending on the House Appropriations Committee. But Murtha and his fellow Democratic porkers do have some company on the other side of the aisle like politicians like GOP Sen. Ted Stevens deemed the "King of Pork."

Now Democrats on Capitol Hill are shamefully delaying sending President Bush an ethics bill they've already passed that purports to reform lobbyist reporting and earmarks because they're afraid Mr. Bush will veto the bill, which makes only cosmetic changes on the earmark process, gutting the reforms Congress voted earlier this year.

The time is long overdue for true reform, and that just may require a clean sweep next election, axing both the Democratic leadership - and the old-guard Republicans with them.
