To Fallujah's Terrorists, With Love From Code Pink Via Henry Waxman

Topics: Iraq

Vinnie at Jawa Report posts today on claims by Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson (U.S. Air Force-Ret.) in his latest book, War Crimes: The Left's Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror, that two anti-war groups -- "United for Peace & Justice" and "CODEPINK: Women for Peace" -- literally gave aid and comfort to terrorists when they delivered $600,000 in cash and supplies they claim was humanitarian aid to civilians, "If It's True ..... Someone's got some 'splainin' to do."

"Here is an American Congressman .... Here are American citizens who belong to these organizations," says Patterson. "They travel to Iraq and they are materially supporting, they are aiding and abetting the enemy that is killing American Marines. If that's not treason, nothing is."
According to Patterson, Congressman Henry Waxman (D-California) facilitated the transaction for CODEPINK by signing a letter allowing them to get the cash and supplies into Fallujah. Vinnie goes on to note that he hasn't read the book, was sent the link via email, and presents the story with no judgement whatsoever (I assume Vinnie is referring to the truth or validity of Patterson's claim).

While I have nothing to add on the truth of validity of whether or not CODEPINK's cash and supplies actually got into the hands of the enemy, it appears from multiple sources (here, here, here, and here - for example), that indeed was CODEPINK's intent and that it's likely that Waxman knew that this was the case.

As for Henry Waxman's choice of company, he apparently doesn't mind associating with people that give aid and comfort to the enemy, and providing them propaganda. Shortly after the US offensive in Fallujah, Code Pink hired an Iraqi filmmaker and a team of propagandists disguised as journalists to go into Fallujah and elsewhere in Iraq, and they made this propaganda video, another recent release (May 24, 2006). Again Code Pink portrays American soldiers as baby-killers, President Bush as the real terrorist and Zarqawi as benevolent myth (hat tip - tgslTakoa)

In related coverage, BlackFive and Flopping Aces have also covered the story, although both bloggers referrence Patterson's book which is purportedly well sourced and documented.

Over-all I'd have to believe that at the very least, Henry Waxman and CODEPINK should be investigated for aiding and abetting the enemy in a time of war (Isn't that called treason ?), and yes Vinnie, I agree that if it's true: "Someone's got some 'splainin' to do."

And at this point, it appears that the "splainin" should be forthcoming sooner rather than later, Mr. Waxman!
