British Infidels Shoot The Koran

Given the problems with terrorism in the UK, and especially the most recent car bombing attempts, one can't really fault the Brits for being angry at Islam in general, and even to a large degree the growing Muslim community there. So what this video portrays, albeit it shows misplaced anger that is blaming an entire religion that has failed to reform and conform to accommodate the modern world, for the deviant, devious, sick ideology of radical Islam, is certainly understandable.

And before Muslims and the media go whacko over the shooting of the Koran, let's put this into perspective: Ridiculing and questioning Islam, Muhammad, the Qur'an and religion in general is an ancient tradition in Muslim countries.

Islam's glory was a secular one based on knowledge and science. This is what makes the current drift towards scripture, ritual and conservatism in many Muslims so alarming. Just because dictators and foreign meddling spoiled the modern secular experiment, that does not mean we should throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Muslims could draw lessons from Europe's Renaissance and learn and embrace the "western" sciences while drawing pride from their own ancient heritage, rather like the Europeans did with the ancient Greeks.
