Blood On Harry's Hands
Topics: IraqOn the day that we learn Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is planning an "all-nighter" to protest the Republicans' moves to require 60 votes to amend the 2008 Defense Appropriations Act, and a Democratic aid admits to Fox News that it is all a publicity stunt, nows a good time to drag out this old Heritage Foundation commentary on Senator Harry Reid and his declaration that the war is lost:
Patrick Casey writes at The Stump:
In reality, these 60 vote maneuvers are filibusters, but the media started referring to them as mere procedural votes after the Democrats started to use them during the judicial confirmation fights over the past few years. In fact, as the Constitution states that the only votes that need a three-fifths majority to pass are treaties and budgets, the tactics employed by the Republicans now have more of an established constitutional pedigree than did the Democrats' obstruction of judges then. But no matter, a filibuster is a filibuster -- and up until recently if you engaged in one it meant endless debate until the Majority Leader called it off.Harry and his fellow Democrats, along with a handful of RINOs and the naive anti-war far left, think that wars are fought by polls (or pols). Unfortunately for America, that strategy only emboldens the Islamists that want to kill us.
