Aftermath of Red Mosque Assault Continues, As Security Situation In Pakistan Deteriorates
Topics: War on TerrorPakistan's President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, is rapidly learning that making a deal with Islamic extremists is making a deal with the devil, and only serves to create more problems; nearly 80 people have died in Pakistan in the last two days following the Red Mosque raid, as the Pakistani Taliban has called off the cease-fire and are calling for guerrilla attacks against Pakistani security forces. One Pakistani official says it's serious enough that he compared the wave of violence to the situation in Iraq.
This, as The Independent reports that although General Musharraf initially received widespread support for his handling of the standoff with the radical mosque, he now lacks both the time and the resources to effectively fight the nation's extremists.
