McCain Does Well on the Iraq War - Immigration Still The 800 lb. Gorilla (Updated)
Topics: Political News and commentariesRace 4 2008 writes:"I think McCain's answer to the woman in the audience who lost her brother in Iraq was one of the strongest and most heartfelt segments of the night. It exemplifies why those who are so quick to read his campaign its last rites are sorely mistaken."
While I agree that McCain is right on the War on Terror and on Iraq, I disagree on the last rites being sorely mistaken. McCain is so wrong on immigration, and has dissed the right so many times in the past - having long ago earned the well deserved label of "Republican in name only," he'll never make it through the primaries as a winner. If there were no other choices for a candidate that is strong on national defense and security, things might be different.
Unfortunately for John McCain, and fortunately for voters in the center-right, there are at least two other viable candidates that center-right voters can turn to - and after July 4th there are likely to be three. And any way you cut it, for John McCain, the 800 pound gorilla called immigration is too big a critter to ignore.
