U.S. Military Discovers Iraqi Girl's School Being Built Was Explosives-rigged 'Death Trap'

Topics: Iraq

With a son that's now in Iraq for the fifth time, and having followed Iraq closely from our first day there, I've already heard more stories indicative of a terribly sick culture and ideology than I ever imagined could exist. This one, however, is in a league all it's own: The premeditated murder of innocent Iraqi school girls by Iraqi contractors who actually constructed a school with the full intentions of killing Iraqi school girls - to literally take the time to build a school over a death trap with the intention of blowing them up. What kind of people do this?

American soldiers discovered a girls school being built north of Baghdad had become an explosives-rigged "death trap," the U.S. military said Thursday.

The plot at the Huda Girls' school in Tarmiya was a "sophisticated and premeditated attempt to inflict massive casualties on our most innocent victims," military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said.

The military suspects the plot was the work of al Qaeda, because of its nature and sophistication, Caldwell said in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

The plot was uncovered Saturday, when troopers in the Salaheddin province found detonating wire across the street from the school. They picked up the wire and followed its trail, which led to the school. Once inside, they found an explosive-filled propane tank buried beneath the floor. There were artillery shells built into the ceiling and floor, and another propane tank was found, the military said.

The wire was concealed with mortar and concrete, and the propane tanks had been covered with brick and hidden underneath the floor, according to a military statement. Soldiers were able to clear the building.

"It was truly just an incredibly ugly, dirty kind of vicious killing that would have gone on here," Caldwell said.

Iraqi contractors were responsible for building the school, which was intended to bring in hundreds of girls.

"Given the care and work put into emplacing this IED, it is likely it had been planned for a long time" and it is thought that "the IED was not intended to be set off until the building was occupied," the military said.

That the Islamist ideology of such incredible brutality and inhuman, mindless, violence can exist at all, much less flourish, speaks volumes to the sickness of the culture and society of the Middle East.

Think about it, these are Muslims planning the murder of innocent Muslim children. And the sick Islamist ideology behind the planned murder of these children is indeed global, but al-Qaeda itself has repeatedly said that Iraq is the biggest battlefield in their war against civilization:

In July 2005 Zawahiri wrote to Zarqawi:

I want to be the first to congratulate you for what God has blessed you with in terms of fighting battle in the heart of the Islamic world, which was formerly the field for major battles in Islam's history, and what is now the place for the greatest battle of Islam in this era...

As we pointed out in our post yesterday in a message to the Defeaticrats: CNN analysts and other observers warn that pulling U.S. forces from Iraq could trigger catastrophe, affecting not just Iraq but its neighbors in the Middle East, with far-reaching global implications.

The take home message here is clear. The sickness that is the culture and society of the Middle East belongs in the ME and needs to be kept there until it is changed or destroyed. And better to stop the bastards in Iraq than fight them on our streets here in America.

This is Evil, vile, despicable beyond all understanding. There is no redemption for the people who did this, or the people who pretended not to see, or the people who can tolerate co-existing with the people who did this. Every one of the workers involved needs to be rounded up and executed- along with anyone who speaks a word in their defense. This isn't "a few", this can only be the result of a large group gone pathologically bad. We need to wake up, yes, a whole town is guilty when a whole town conspires to hide the deeds of the few terrorists within, and anyone who has looked the other way to permit this to happen has forfeited his or her claim to human rights or humane treatment. If it means shooting every adult in the town the contractors came from, and sending every child out to adoptive parents (of other cultures!) to be raised as something other than what they are headed for now, so be it.

Good points all, Ben. And I would think that you're probably right about a lot of the people in the town having to know about it.

As for the part about the children needing to be put with families of other cultures, I'm with you on that too - but it would play hell on the Muslim street - they's go absolutely nutso.
