The Islamist Threat Arrives in Switzerland

Chalk up another major step toward the Islamization of Europe, and the Europeans' voluntary capitulation to Islamists:

In another sign of the spread of Islam within Europe, last month, Swiss Muslims announced their plan to open " Europe's biggest Islamic center" in the capital city of Bern. The center is estimated to cover 84 acres and to cost as much as $66 million to build.

The Swiss will learn to dread the day they allowed this to happen. Swiss neutrality is about to disappear. In 1990, the Muslim population was 152,200, or 2.2% of the Switzerland's resident population. A surprising development for those who know that in the early seventies, there were less than 20,000 Muslims living in Switzerland. Islam is now the second largest religion in Switzerland, after Christianity. Whereas twenty years ago there were only three mosques in Switzerland (two in Geneva and one in Zurich), there are now almost 90, generally referred to as "Islamic Cultural Centers."

Those speaking out against the the Islamization of Switzerland are being opposed by a very naive Swiss Federal President Micheline Calmy-Rey and the UN special rapporteur for the right to food, Jean Ziegler. Ziegler has gone so far as to say "we should be very happy to have as many mosques as possible in Switzerland because we need spirituality; we need the connection between the Islamic world and the Swiss identity." Five years from now the people of Switzerland will consider both of these people to be lunatics. They are not going to like sharia and the special considerations for Islamists that are certain to follow, and they will be crying for a Swiss version of France's Sarkozy. Of this you can be certain.
