PBS Dropped 'Islam vs. Islamists' On political grounds
Topics: Follies of the Mainstream MediaMedia bias against conservatives? No way, you say. And surely public television is fair, balanced, and impartial. Right? You and I both know the truth, don't we!
PBS has been a liberal sacred cow from its very beginning, and only the most willfully self-deluded among us would even attempt to argue that its political programming is anything but a recitation of the liberal progressive agenda. So we can't be very surprised that a film on radical Islam has been quashed by PBS just to silence a conservative voice associated with the work (hat tip - Dan Riehl):
The producer of a tax-financed documentary on Islamic extremism claims his film has been dropped for political reasons from a television series that airs next week on more than 300 PBS stations nationwide.Key portions of the documentary focus on Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser of Phoenix and his American Islamic Forum for Democracy, a non-profit organization of Muslim Americans who advocate patriotism, constitutional democracy and a separation of church and state.
Martyn Burke says that the Public Broadcasting Service and project managers at station WETA in Washington, D.C., excluded his documentary, Islam vs. Islamists, from the series America at a Crossroads after he refused to fire two co-producers affiliated with a conservative think tank.
"I was ordered to fire my two partners (who brought me into this project) on political grounds," Burke said in a complaint letter to PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supplied funds for the films.
Burke wrote that his documentary depicts the plight of moderate Muslims who are silenced by Islamic extremists, adding, "Now it appears to be PBS and CPB who are silencing them."
Readers will recall that Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser recently spoke out against the "praying imams" that are suing U.S. Airways and have threatened to sue certain "John Does" that dared report their suspicious activity. Dr. Zuhdi Jasser says his organization will pay for the defense of the "John Does, and says of CAIR and other radical Islamic groups in America, Muslims need new leadership and organizations which use their passions and the bandwidth of the media to lead the ideological fight against radical and political Islam rather than this tired pre-emption of supposed discrimination.
