Al-Sadr Playing His Final Card
Topics: IraqAl-Sadr, more often than not referred to as a "radical cleric," is dedicated to slaughtering innocent men, women and children in order to force the establishment of an Iraqi Islamic state dominated by Shiite Muslims, with himself as its leader. Following a brief lull after the beginnings of the U.S. surge, the Mookie man has now returned to his old strategy of ordering new assaults on Sunni Muslims, American soldiers, and possibly some Shiites that don't agree with his brand of radicalism. Worthy of note is that his revision to violence occurred at about the time liberals and RINOS in the U.S. Congress began their legislative assault on U.S. policy in Iraq, and decided to provide aid and comfort to our enemies by meeting with radical Islamists throughout the ME. To suggest that al-Sadr has been emboldened by what was and is happening in Congress, would be a huge understatement. During the weekend, al-Sadr - whose essentially little more than a very influential warlord, took another step by ordering the six people he controls among the 37 members of the Iraqi Cabinet, to withdraw from the Cabinet. Clearly, the chubby radical cleric is hoping to provoke a crisis that will bring the Maliki government (hat tip - Intelligencer).
So, has the Mookie man played his final political card in Iraq by withdrawing his ministers from the Cabinet of Nouri al-Maliki? The move indeed puts pressure on Maliki to find other factions to support his majority, and so far, Maliki has refused to buckle to demands for a timetable for the withdrawal of American troops: Captain Ed thinks it's al-Sadr's last card ...
My own take is that the Mookie man is not only on his way down politically, but there's a very good reason he hasn't shown his face lately - with rules of engagement changing, he's now likely a target for U.S. troops.
