Al-Qaeda Fleeing Baghdad

Topics: Iraq

Middle East Newsline reports that Al Qaida has begun to flee the Iraqi capital (hat tip - JackLewis.Net):

Officials said Al Qaida operatives have sought to escape joint Iraqi-U.S. combat units during their security mission in Baghdad. They said the combat units have begun to dismantle Al Qaida cells in the city, now divided into 10 zones.

"I can say that all the zones have been secured by Iraqi and American forces that are seeking to eliminate Al Qaida elements and death squads," Capt. Eric Clark, a U.S. military spokesman, said.

Interesting. The division of the city into zones and the dismantlement of cells in the city sounds a lot like the counterinsurgency methods used by the French to win the battle for Algiers back in the late 1950s, as we posted on earlier today. General Petraeus must know a little more than the Dems and the MSM give him credit for. He's apparently learned from history, and realizes, unlike the Dems who believe that Iraq parallels Vietnam, that Iraq is more like Algiers and that we can win in Iraq if the Dems don't lose it for US at home.
