NYT And WaPo Distort News With Headlines

Topics:

The headline from the New York Times is "G.O.P. Senators Block Debate on Iraq Policy"; the Wapo's headline is "GOP Stalls Debate On Troop Increase". If we only looked at the headlines we're left with only one possible thought: Those damned obstructionist Republicans don't want a debate on Iraq.

But that's not what happened. In the NYT article, we find the truth of the matter hidden in one paragraph:

The deadlock came after Democrats refused a proposal by Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, that would have cleared the way for a floor fight on the Warner resolution in return for votes on two competing Republican alternatives that were more supportive of the president.
So what really happened is the DEMOCRATS blocked further debate because they don't want to have any other resolutions considered, they want only the resolution of John Warner/Carl Levin. And Warner voted against debate on his own resolution because of the Democrats refusal to allow the others to be considered and debated.

Spree has much more on this at Wake Up America ...
