Global Warming, As We Think We Know It, Doesn't Exist.
Topics: Political News and commentaries
Have you considered asking why is it that when scientists who have studied the Global Warming phenomenon for years say that humans are not the cause nobody listens?
Dr. Tim Ball, Chairman of the Natural Resources Stewardship Project and former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg says that since he obtained his doctorate in climatology from the University of London, Queen Mary College, England his career has spanned two climate cycles. Temperatures declined from 1940 to 1980 and in the early 1970's global cooling became the consensus. This proves that consensus is not a scientific fact. By the 1990's temperatures appeared to have reversed and Global Warming became the consensus. He says that it appears he'll witness another cycle before retiring, as the major mechanisms and the global temperature trends now indicate a cooling.
Some more thoughts: When it comes to Iraq, our media have been preoccupied with the issue of whether there was adequate intelligence to justify the invasion and if policy-makers made up evidence before the war. But on the matter of global intervention to stop global warming, there seems to be no need for scientific evidence to justify what is shaping up as a global carbon tax of 35 cents a gallon of gas on the American people. So how come? Are we headed for some form of "solidarity levies" to fund global causes like those sought by the new U.N. chief?

Tim Ball does not appear to be a reliable climatoligist. He's more a geographer, Professor Emeritis and lobbyist. See for example Eli Rabbett http://rabett.blogspot.com/2006/09/playing-tim-ball-click-here-to-play.html
His article is deceptive, and too imprecise to pin down. The vast bulk of it is polemic tricks, not facts.
You write based on his "Since I obtained my doctorate in climatology from the University of London, Queen Mary College, England my career has spanned two climate cycles." You and he reference a cycle in the 1940's to 1980, and the increasing temperatures in the 1990's. This makes it look like he was working prior to the 1980's. In fact he received his doctorate prior in 1983 so his "climatologist" career has not spanned two cycles. http://catalogue.ulrls.lon.ac.uk/search/?searchtype=a&searcharg=Ball%2C+Timothy&searchscope=16&SORT=A&Submit.x=48&Submit.y=27
He gives no indication of the evidence for his claim that "the major mechanisms and the global temperature trends now indicate a cooling". The global troposphereric temperature anomalies graph (the second graph in the link) shows a high El Nino peak in 1998 with no downward trend since. http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/MSU/msusci.html
Ball asks "What would happen if tomorrow we were told that, after all, the Earth is flat?" The answer is it would be ignored because only a few biased people would be claiming it. That's what's happening with global warming - a few biased people deny the evidence and claim Martyr status.

You're points are well taken, but lets not be so quick to discount ole Tim's points either.
Word on the street is that the final UN report from which the 12 page brief was released, is already backing off on the "man made cause." Any way you look at the issue, when it comes down to global warming having been "scientifically proven," it's just not the case. We're talking junk science, not real.
Does this mean we should ignore what we're all doing to our planet? No, but it's not time to start looking for a new one either.
