U.S. Tried To Delay Saddam Hanging
Topics: IraqA CBS/AP report says that US ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad tried to delay Saddam's execution for 15 days but Iraq's prime minister insisted on carrying out the sentence.
As The Big Pharoah notes, this proves that the decision to execute Saddam on the first day of the Muslim holy feast was taken by the Iraqi government - alone. Chants heard in the leaked cell phone video clip sheds light on the fact that Saddam's executioners were followers of Muqtada Sadr - the anti-America Shia cleric in Iraq, yet Monday's Al Ahram paper published a cartoon depicting Uncle Sam handing a hanging rope to girl representing the Arab/Muslim world. "Is that the Eid gift you brought me?" the girl asked Uncle Sam. In other words, as usual, the U.S. gets the blame.
