'Worse Than Plagiarism'
Topics: Political News and commentaries
(Hat tip - Powerline) At Jewish Current Issues, Rick Richman explores the meaning of the maps Jimmy Carter plagiarized for his new book: "Carter's maps: Worse than plagiarism."
The truth is a little more complicated than mere plagiarism, and takes a while to explain. Carter not only appears to have copied maps from Ross but -- more importantly -- to have re-titled them to make them appear to be something they are not. Moreover, his maps omit the descriptive notes that Ross included on his maps, which would have contradicted the point Carter was trying to make. Finally, the point he was trying to make with the borrowed and altered maps is central to his entire book.Read the entire post here.... Carter's maps are worse than plagiarism -- they are placed together in a way that dramatically distorts history, misinforms the reader, and assists Carter in his book-length attempt to absolve the Palestinians from their rejection of peace in 2000 in favor of a barbaric war.
If Carter's book were a car, it would be recalled.
It would seem that the man many refer to as the worst ex-president in American history (Carter's penchant for interfering in US foreign policy is so well known it won him a Nobel Prize, and he will go down in history as the first US ex-president ever to be awarded a Nobel Prize for the sole purpose of conveying an insult to his country from the Nobel committee) may be fast-becoming known also as a plagiarist.
A commenter at JCI comes close to matching my own sentiments:
Mr. Carter is going down the same road that Professor Michael Bellisiles late of Emery University trod, he to was caught trying to change history to fit his perceived ideas of what history should have been rather than what actually was. M. Bellisiles was relieved of his tenure at the University, a very prestigious writing award was taking back and he was disgraced as was his University. Mr. Carter's think tank is ensconced upon a Universities grounds and graced with their reputation, wonder how they like having Mr. Carter join the Holocaust Deniers in lying and beating up on the Jews. He deserves the same treatment that M. Bellisiles received. He's proven himself a raciest old bastard full of lies and bitterness, enough of him harming his country and making a fool of himself; be gone Mr. Carter, we have had enough of your stupidity.
My only edit to the commenter's post would be that Carter has been caught trying to change history to fit his perceived ideas of what (he believes) history should have been rather than what actually was.
