Revisionism Revisited
Topics: Culture and SocietyThere is much to be said in regards to the International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust. Being skeptical is often a good thing, but why stop there? If events such as the holocaust and 9/11 can be called into question despite the overwhelming amount of eyewitness testimony, historical documentation such as film and paper accounts, and archaeological evidence then it is even more important to review events further back which are likely to be distorted by the passage of time.
To whit: the so-called "Crusades" of the middle ages. Was there actually a military incursion from European Christian kingdoms? Is it not just as likely that these were some type of inter-community faith based initiative to provide food and clothing to the suffering masses in the middle east? It is a desert and not possessing the luxuries and wealth of central Europe so why else would thousands of peace loving nobleman and their retainers go so far, but to succor the unfortunate? And it makes sense that this would hurt the pride of certain individuals in the region who would in turn color the events in a different historical light.
If all is fair in love and war, so much more so the memetic struggle of propaganda. When one messes with the truth that is the bedrock and fundamental tone of reality one ends up tredding in mental and spiritual quicksand. Though I doubt that this message would be heard by those in Iran with a personal interest in remaining blind and deaf.
