Now Comes The Good News

... the good news this week is not the ISG's call for the measured abandonment of Iraq. It is, counterintuitively, that George Bush - sorely battered by midterm elections and the results of Donald Rumsfeld's bankrupt Occupation-Lite strategy - is showing signs he remembers that he's still the president.
As Jules notes in his piece, and the best news of all, there is still someone in Washington who is not acting on the dictates of popular opinion polls, and knows why we are fighting, and what the stakes are. Counterintuitively, George Bush wants us to win in Iraq, as we must.
