Media And Liberal Progressives "Heart" Barack Obama
Topics: Political News and commentaries
Our latest made-by-media liberal progressive household name is none other than Senator Barack Hussein Obama, Illinois Democrat, a man with no legislative record to speak of (the media and his supporters try to package him as a moderate) and whose political skills have hardly really been tested (he won election only through the support of the Chicago Tribune's anointing and destruction of his opponent), and a man that the media portrays as a moderate.
Jim Kouri aptly calls him "the latest paramour of the denizens of the mainstream media" (Hat tip - Harry Owens):
With their superficial sensibilities, the entire big media -- including Fox News Channel -- appear to want to give Sen. Obama a collective lap-dance. Like lovesick school girls they get absolutely giddy at the sound of his name.A history teacher, and Democrat, in N.H. has already crowned him as one of America's royalty:This media blast of passion and adulation has created a news household name. In fact, a friend who's a true progressive told me she loved Obama. When I pressed her for more information, it turned out she didn't even know what he looked like or what he stood for; her love for him was based on -- you guessed it -- media coverage.
History teacher and Democrat Mark Bingham of Alton, N.H., met Obama and said that despite his inexperience, he could rank among presidents named Lincoln and Kennedy. "It's good to see politics going in another direction," Bingham told the senator. The Concord Monitor described his first visit to New Hampshire yesterday, as a "rapturous reception," and "drawing the kinds of crowds and news media attention usually reserved for a sitting president or a presidential nominee."
And the Democratic Underground, a website used to disseminate "liberal and progressive ideas," has virtually anointed him by launching a Barack Obama discussion group to promote the Illinois senator's political career:
The Democratic Underground said the mission of its new group - which appeared on DU's website Wednesday evening -- "is to discuss this rising star in the Democratic Party and to share news and information about his life, career and political future."One would think that the media and their liberal friends believe that Barack Hussein Obama walks on water. However, when people talk about the political marvel that Senator Obama (supposedly is), are they leaving out part of the story - that the Chicago Tribune basically appointed him to office by destroying his opponent with personal information? Yes.The website welcomes "DUers who are supporters of Senator Obama for President, or have a positive view of the Senator and are open to an Obama candidacy in 2008."
The discussion group includes a petition written by Illinois' other Democratic senator, Dick Durbin, who also wants Obama to run for president in 2008.
"As many of you may know, I'm a huge Barack Obama fan," Dubin's petition reads.
"Not only does Senator Obama do a wonderful job representing the people of Illinois, in just a few short years he has proven himself to be an incredibly inspirational national leader. From his memorable and unifying speech at the Democratic National Convention to his new book "The Audacity of Hope," Barack has shown that he has the best interests of all Americans at heart," the petition says.
Durbin said he believes Obama is the right man to lead the country in a time of "turmoil around the globe," and he says he thinks Obama is the man to unite Americans.
Is Obama, as is suggested in the same link, a kind of "black John Edwards," a man with little experience in the Senate running around on buzz? Yes.
The ongoing made-by-media heart fest over Obama smirks of a realization among Democrats that Hillary is simply unelectable, and that we're seeing the surface of an "anyone but Hillary" movement amongst the liberal Democrats. The media apparently shares the same view, hence its willingness to to portray the smooth-talking, far left-of-center, Obama - as a moderate.
And moderate he's most definitely not. Jim Kouri explains:
Hopefully, the media-Obama lovefest will be shortlived and then we can get on with finding out who this man really is. We're told he's a moderate, yet he's pro-abortion and against a bill making partial-birth abortion illegal. How is he moderate on that issue? Unless he just wants to wound the unborn baby rather than killing it outright. Can we agree he's not moderate on this issue?Barack Hussein Obama is moderate? Not in my book.On gun control, Obama is like most of his Democrat Party colleagues, he opposes citizens bearing arms, but says he doesn't. Perhaps he supports citizens' gunownership; it's the ammo that he opposes. Now that's moderate.
On the war on terror, Obama hangs tough with his buddies Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry, the rest of the liberal-left. But he's moderate. He doesn't want America to lose. He just doesn't want us to win.
What about immigration? Here's Obama's own words, you decide: "The Department of Homeland Security recognizes that identifying and deporting 11 million undocumented workers currently in this country would be both logistically impossible and highly disruptive to the American economy.
"Instead of mass deportations, I believe that Congress must pass comprehensive, compassionate reform that reaffirms the rule of law and brings the undocumented population out of hiding."
There's a term for smooth-talking men who possess flowery vocabularies -- empty suits. Their achievements are shallow and their ideas are polished bits of information that their handlers believe will help them rise to the top of the heap.
Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, Senator, reality will soon set in. The American electorate may not all be the brightest bulbs in the lamp - as was so evidenced during our last election, but we didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday, either. Race isn't the issue, America would likely support a black president. The issue just happens to be truth in labeling.
