The Real Problem About Kerry's 'Botched Joke'
Topics: Political News and commentaries
... is that for it to be a joke he'd have to undo 35 years of history - as in color his long-standing anti-military animus as though it never existed:
... This insult to the military and the country is not a one- time aberration, but fits a pattern of Kerry's that goes back to the Vietnam War. In front of a U.S. Senate foreign relations committee, he accused our troops of rapes, of disemboweling the innocent, of behaving like Genghis Khan. More recently, he said our troops in Iraq terrorized women and children in the dead of night. So Kerry made no mistake; he merely repeated his long-held feelings about our troops. And now, the man who has a long history of slandering our troops says that anyone who thinks he would do so is crazy. I'll leave it to others to decide who is crazy. There is absolutely no question whatsoever that Kerry's non-apology apology comes not from his heart but from the political agenda of the Democratic party - say anything and do anything to defeat Bush and the Republicans who insist on defeating the Islamists that want to kill us, rather than pretend the war on terror is of no consequence to our continued existance as a nation. Kerry (and the Democratic leadership via his Freudian slip) meant precisely what he said.... The Democratic Party has simply lost its way. The party of Roosevelt, Truman, Scoop Jackson and other first-class leaders has become the party of Howard Dean, Dick Durbin, Al Sharpton, Cynthia Sheehan, Michael Moore, John Kerry and Jimmy Carter. The party can't be trusted on national defense and the war against terror, which now means they can't be trusted in elective office. If they gain control of Congress, that will be the equivalent of flying a giant white flag in the direction of our enemies. Everyone should understand what is at stake in this election, and act and vote accordingly.
... Sen. Kerry's latest slander is a new low. But it is just a continuation of a long downward trajectory of the Democratic Party.
Bryan Preston (via Michelle Malken) writes of the Democratic Left's anti-military animus:
Here's the truth: As Bill Clinton wrote of himself in trying to dodge the draft, most of the left loathes the military. Liberal elitists denigrate the military because they don't appreciate its role in protecting us and see it as the one part of government they're always willing to slash to the bone. Think about why that last part is true. Why are liberals always ready to cut the military and boost agencies like HUD? Why? Doesn't that say something about their attitudes, principles and priorities? I've seen it myself, the wince on a liberal's face when I mention I was once in the Air Force. It's a reflexive mistrust and hatred, a hangover from the 60s for those like Kerry, and the pabulum that the younger ones have been fed from the cradle.
And we shouldn't believe for even a moment that Kerry's perception and disdain for the military is anything less than the overriding view of the Democratic party leadership:
Similar to the Freudian slip Hillary made while departing Marine One upon her first arrival on the White House lawn, when she looked at a Marine standing at attention as she departed the chopper and said, "make yourself useful and grab my bags". Or when she poured a welcoming cup of tea on the ground in Culpeper Virginia, telling Secret Service agents in attendance, "I only drink tea from a cup and saucer", or when she shouted out "we are the President!" Like when husband Bill Clinton actually wrote in a letter to his would-be Commanding Officer, "I loathe the military".Kerry's "Botched Joke" is no joke, rather it is a window into the mindset and weakness of the Democratic party's position and mindset on national defense in general. So for the sake of our children's children's children and generations thereafter:These kinds of gaffes aren't really gaffes, other than they had hoped to sneak them by the eyes and ears of average American voters, who would likely slap their faces in response, at a minimum. They are classic Freudian slips... where their innermost thoughts slip off the tip of their tongues before they can shut themselves up. It happens all the time to folks overly-impressed with themselves.
... forget about Abramoff, Katrina, Iraq, and any other Republican blunder which the MSM has unabashedly over-reported in an effort to deflate your motivation to get out to the polls. Instead of the mundane fallout over Foley, consider the potential lethal fallout over your city.If the Democrats retake the House, she will have been right - dead right, and potentially - all of us with her.For the sake of this and future generations--vote. Vote as though your life depended on it - for it just might. Pelosi has said that this election "shouldn't be about National Security."
