The Foley Story Is 'Getting Wierd'

Borrowing from the way Charles at Little Green Footballs phrases it, the Mark Foley story is weird and getting wierder, and although there doesn't seem to be any doubt that Foley's guilty of making advances to teenage boys (he did resign!) - there's something very odd about the email messages being circulated by media and left wing blogs.

Let's be clear here, no one is defending Foley's "sicko actions," or suggesting that he has done anything less than dispicable; it's just that there appears to be "some serious questions that need to be answered about this story." As for my sentiments on the entire issue, I found Michelle Malkin's statement to be both appropriate and dead on target:

Disgraced GOP Rep. Mark Foley's instant messages with an underage page are absolutely appalling. He was a 54-year-old man abusing his position of power with a 16-year-old boy. Based on all the reporting so far, and there may yet be more to come, Rep. Foley was exactly the kind of sexual predator--"sicko," in his own words--he crusaded against in Congress. Alcoholism seems the least of his problems.

And also:

"Rep. Foley's apparent abuse of office and lecherous communications with a 16-year-old boy -- during what should have been one of the best times in his life as a page in Washington -- is every parent's worst nightmare," she wrote. "It happens to both boys and girls, and all parents must be vigilant and immunize their children against predators early and often."
