Russia: 'UN Peacekeepers Unlikely To Disarm Hizballah
Topics: Middle East News and Perspectives
In what Jihad Watch calls a "Stop-The-Presses Alert from AFP," Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov says that the UN peacekeepers deployed in Lebanon under UNSCR 1701 are unlikely to disarm Hezbollah:
'Under the UN mandate, one of the main functions of the peacekeepers is to disarm Hezbollah,' Ivanov was quoted as saying by the state-run news agency. 'I strongly doubt that the UN will fulfill this task.'To put this in the proper perspective, if the UN force fails to disarm Hezbollah and Hezbollah unilaterally refuses to disarm, Hezbollah is in direct breach of the agreement, as is the UN force, and there is in fact no agreement - it has been broken, and is null and void. Is it not?Ivanov said that concern over this aspect of the peacekeepers' mission was one of the reasons Moscow decided to send a peacekeeping contingent to Lebanon under an accord reached separately with the Lebanese government, instead of under the UN mandate, RIA-Novosti reported.
UN Security Council Resolution 1701 requires the Shia militant group Hezbollah, which fought a 34-day war against Israel in July-August, to disarm.
Peacekeepers are instructed to ensure the south Lebanon border area with Israel is 'free of any armed personnel and weapons other than those of the Lebanese armed forces and UNIFIL (peacekeepers).'
Hezbollah guerrillas have kept a low profile since the resolution, but refused to disarm.
Hezbollah has done what Islamists do when they have their backs to the wall or when they are at a disadvantage - they resorted to committing al-taqiyya (Islam's shell game - a war tactic) in order to buy time to regain an advantage over their enemy. They lied, they deceived, they committed trickery and treachery, in the name of Allah and their religion in order that they be in a position to create more violence and mayhem in the future.
Let this be a lesson to all of us in dealing with all Islamist countries - especially Iran and its agents such as Hezbollah. Be forewarned and well aware that when dealing with Islamists we are not dealing with reasonable and honorable people - we are dealing with lying ideologues that will say and do anything to defeat their enemy. Lying is nothing more than a simple shell game to them, and you need look no further than recent history in Lebanon and in the years of Iran's non-nuclear negotiations with the international community to know this to be fact.
