On Islam And The West - 'The Real Problem'

Topics: War on Terror

If Peter Riga's beliefs are correct, the world is involved in a death struggle with Islam:

HOUSTON, Oct. 18 -- Peter Riga addresses the reality of terrorism in today's world and asserts that Islam is the major cause of the present war in his new book, "Our Death Struggle With Islam" (now available through AuthorHouse). In his book, Riga explains his belief that the world is in the midst of a mortal war in which only one - the West or Islam - can survive. "Our enemy is not some aberrational interpretation of Islam, but Islam itself," says Riga. He presents his conclusions from extensive study of the Quran, sharia and the Hadith (sayings and actions of the prophet).

"The values contained and espoused in the Quran are diametrically opposed to those of the democratic West in general and of the United States in particular," he says. "For the first time that I can remember, President Bush called our enemy by its right name: Islamic fascists ... From the very beginning of Islam, this political and religious faith spread by conquest and warfare in what all the documents call jihad, the war to bring the entire world under the rule of Islam."

Riga warns Americans that they must take this war seriously in order to avoid devastating results. "If [Americans] lose this war, they lose their freedom, their way of life, their very way of living," he says. "The best weapon of the enemy is to make you think that he is not an enemy."

As to whether or not the world is indeed "in the midst of a mortal war in which only one - the West or Islam - can survive," only time will tell. However, if there is no difference between what we are told is radical Islam and that of "moderate Muslims" - Riga's belief and predictions are likely correct. On the other hand, there is evidence that there are Muslim moderates that do not subscribe literally to the tenets of Islam as prescribed in the Quran, sharia, and the Hadith. The difference, if any, speaks to the eventual magnitude of the problem, one that continues to unfold, as we speak.

The world awaits with bated breath, the wave of moderate Muslim voices that is so desperately needed if Riga's dire predictions are to be avoided.
