BMW has come up with something that could do a better job than the CIA in defunding al-Qaida - a car that runs on either gasoline or liquefied hydrogen.
Hydrogen stores energy more effectively than current batteries, burns twice as efficiently in a fuel cell as gasoline does in an internal combustion engine (more than making up for the energy required to produce it), and leaves only water behind. It's plentiful, clean, and - critically - capable of powering cars.
