12 Congressmen Demand Pardon For Border Agents
Topics: Immigration and Border IssuesSurely you'll recall Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean who attempted to apprehend a Mexican drug smuggler who brought 743 pounds of marijuana across the U.S. border last year, only to be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office while the smuggler was granted full immunity to testify against the agents. Both Ramos and Compean were convicted by a Texas jury for firing shots at the fleeing smuggler, who, they believed, carried a gun.
Finally, it appears that sanity may be entering the up-till-now unequal equation favoring the Left and illegal immigration, with a dozen members of the House of Representatives having written to President Bush demanding an investigation of the case against two Border Patrol agents - who were sentenced to 11 and 12 years in prison. The Congressmen are questioning the accuracy of the charges against the agents and the conduct of the prosecutor, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, while calling for a presidential pardon of the agents:
U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone in El Paso, Texas, sentenced Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison and Ignacio Ramos to 11 years and one day despite a plea by their attorney for a new trial after three jurors said they were coerced into voting guilty in the case.Be sure to read Convicted border agent tells his story, and you'll find out just how insane the prosecution of these border agents really was, and also how our government is favoring fleeing felons as a matter of policy. As WND reported, a federal jury convicted Compean, 28, and Ramos, 37, in March after a two-week trial on charges of causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and a civil rights violation.
BTW, we should all demand that the agents receive not only a presidential pardon, but also full reinstatement, with all back pay, plus a medal of freedom. As for the prosecutor and Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof, both should be fired and imprisoned for incompetence and high treason - they put our country at greater risk from continued invasion by Mexican illegals and terrorists from all over the world funnelling into the U.S. across our southern border.
