On 'The Devil and Hillary Clinton'
Topics: Political News and commentaries
It seems that when people think of politics these days, whether it be international or domestic, references to the devil are popping up. First it was Hugo Chavez calling George Bush, "The Devil", and now it's Jerry Falwell saying that Hillary Clinton could fire up conservative evangelical Christians, "More than the devil himself":
WASHINGTON -- If Hillary Rodham Clinton is the Democrats' presidential nominee in 2008, it will motivate conservative evangelical Christians to oppose her more than if the devil himself were running, the Rev. Jerry Falwell has told pastors at a "values" conference.Dare I say that Falwell is begining to sound like those clerics in mosques that fire up their followers on Fridays? I know, he's not spouting violence, but its my own personal opinion that he should completely segregate the issues of politics and anything to do with prayer, especially since he's not trying to encourage dialogue or rational discussion, he's simply inserting a personal opinion in a religious forum. It's not like Hillary Clinton is a violent evil person, she's only a self-centered, selfish, far-left, liberal, jerk - pretending she's a little center for the sole purpose of attracting unwary moderate voters."I certainly hope that Hillary is the candidate," Falwell, a leading conservative evangelist, said, according to a tape recording of the Friday prayer breakfast attended by several hundred pastors and religious activists.
The recording, first reported in Sunday's Los Angeles Times, was confirmed by someone who attended the conference, but not the breakfast, and has heard the tape.
"I hope she's the candidate, because nothing will energize my (constituency) like Hillary Clinton," Falwell said. "If Lucifer ran, he wouldn't."
That little matter aside, and turning to a bit of humor, Falwell isn't the only one that has an association of Hillary Clinton with the devil on their mind, take for example Elizabeth Thyssen's piece at The Federal Observer:
While walking down the street, a female senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. Her soul arrives in heaven and she's met by St. Peter. "Welcome to Heaven" says St. Peter. "It seems there's a problem. We seldom see a high officials around these parts, so we're not sure what to do with you."I won't spoil it for you, go read the rest yourself... You're going to love it!"There's no problem, just let me in," says the lady.
"Well, I'd like to but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in Hell, and one in Heaven. Then you can choose were to spend eternity."
"Really! Well I've made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven," says the senator.
"I'm sorry but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts her to the elevator and she goes down, down, down......
