On 'Democrats Vow Not To Give Up Hopelessness And 'What Happened To All That Euphoria ?'

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Bush Approval.jpgSome might call it real life satire, but I'm sure there are many Democrats shaking their heads and wondering how the Onion had it so right way back in February (somewhat paraphrasing here):

Harry Reid:" We can lose this. All it takes is a little lack of backbone."

Sen. Ted Kennedy: Democrats are not willing to sacrifice their core values - indecision, incoherence, and disorganization--for the sake of short-term electoral gain.

Howard Dean: "Stay on our unclear message, maintain a defensive, reactive posture, and keep an elitist distance from voters."

Now, here we are in September, less than two months away from the mid-term elections, and even the Times of London has figured out that the Democrats are a national party with no real agenda and no political vision. Sadly, as Captain Ed points out, its likely to get worse:
... The fading fortunes of the Democratic Party in the run-up to the midterm elections have become common knowledge even thousands of miles away. Only a few weeks ago, Democrats confidently discussed the chair assignments in a House run by a Speaker Pelosi instead of a Speaker Hastert. Now that confidence has deflated, and even the Times of London can diagnose the bumblings of a national party with no real agenda...

... They should prepare for the situation to get even worse. After the lunatic rantings of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez at the UN this week, Americans will understand better than ever that the Democratic insistence on deferring to international leadership that applauds these nutcases make Democrats even loonier than the Mutt & Jeff of petrotyrants. It will also remind voters of how dangerous the world is at this time, and that only the GOP seems to comprehend it. At this rate, the Republicans might even pick up a few seats at the midterms.

To put it bluntly, the Democratic party, under the helm of Howard "Screaming" Dean has gone from bliss and euphoria, even to the point of "confidently discussing chair assignments," to growing uncertainty, and some would argue, I believe correctly, that much of the deflation in the Democrats' prior euphoria is the result of their having become the party of attack (as in the administration) rather than a party of solution. The very sad truth is that the Democratic party has allowed itself to become so wrapped up in attacking the current administration, that it has become their only agenda, their only policy, and is all they have to offer in political dialogue.

Rather than accept the fact that we are in a war for the survival of our way of life, and perhaps our nation, the Democratic Party has chosen to become more than the opposition party, it has chosen to become the party of obstruction (although not necessarily true about many of its members, such as Joe Lieberman, and others). It's useful to offer alternative solutions, but not obstructionist arguments for the sake of fulfilling a political agenda that diminishes the capacity of the nation to defend itself. The Democrats want power, but they have made it clear to the American people that while they are very good at being obstructionists and a voice for the far Left, they have little to offer in the way of solutions to America's problems or how best to fight the war against radical Islam.
