Are you kidding me?
Are we talking about the Bosnia where the U.S. intervened, for entirely altruistic reasons, to stop the wholesale slaughter of Muslims? If that isn't a damned lame excuse for killing 3,000 people - I can't think of one.
Apparently Islamic terrorists can find an excuse in almost any event, and see countries that make sensitive analyses of their complaints as easy marks, and gullible. And it appears that the eagerness of many in the West to prettify mass murder with "root causes" could itself be a root cause.

Somehow I don't think the left is going to be happy with this answer to the "why do they hate us" question.It does provide some insight into the jihadist mentality: they lump all non-Muslims into the same category. The distinction between Muslims and non-Muslims is the cardinal distinction. They don't bother distinguishing between post-Communist Serbs and Russians and Americans. We are all just infidels to them.
The left in our country has the mistaken notion that the jihadists hate us for precisely all the reasons the left itself hates us! Unfortunately, the left still hasn't realized that the jihadists don't think like us.
