Marines to Order Thousands of Troops Back to Active Duty
Topics: War on TerrorThe AP is reporting that the Marine Corps will soon begin ordering thousands of its troops back to active duty because of a shortage of volunteers for Iraq and Afghanistan - the first involuntary recall since the early days of the war. Upon hearing about this I immediately called my local Marine Corp recruiter and told him this Recon Marine was ready to leave immediately, and told my wife to pack my bags.
My wife wasn't much moved, and just said, "Shut up, old fool, they don't need 60 year old Marines in wheelchairs." Although not in those exact words, that's the jest of what the recruiter said too.
