On Iranian Interference In Iraq - Isn't It Time To Order A Cease And Desist, Or Else, And Then Deliver The Else?

Topics: Iraq

Apparently, Iran has sent heavily-armed agents into Iraq who have set up a base near the central Iraqi province of Diyala.

The armed agents illegally entered Iraq from the Iranian border town of Mehran last week, the daily Az-Zaman wrote in its international edition on Tuesday.

The report quoted an Iraqi intelligence official as saying that the agents had received logistical support from armed Iraqi militias and were in an area between al-Reshad, west of Baghdad, to Khan Bani-Sad, close to Diyala.

Army Gen. George W. Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, has previously accused the Iranian government of training, equipping and directing Shiite Muslim insurgents operating in Iraq, which the Iranian government has of course denied (what, the Iranian government lie???).

However, in spite of Iran's denials, both Iran and Syria are the principle insurgent/terrorist-supporting states that are now and have been since the fall of Saddam, working to defeat the Coalition's attempts to stabilize Iraq. While we've done little to discourage them, other than to offer timid complaints like a whipped puppy, we've a the same time done damned little to stop them. The time has come to realize, as Israel has finally realized in Gaza with the Palestinians, that appeasing terrorists and rogue states gains nothing - and that the only thing that the Arabs and Islamists respect is the sharp end of a Western sword in the form of U.S. air power.
