Lebanon: Americans In The Crosshairs

Topics: Middle East News and Perspectives

Dr. Politico at Partisan Times writes that during a speech before the Knesset earlier today, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed that his country "will not agree to live in the shadow of the threat of missiles or rockets against its residents":

"We shall seek out every installation, hit every terrorist helping to attack Israeli citizens, destroy all the terrorist infrastructure, in every place. We shall continue this until Hezbollah does the basic and fair things required of it by every civilized person," Pm Olmert said in his first major address since the fighting in Lebanon began last week.
Olmert's words carry two implications: first, the war between Israel and Islamofascists will escalate prior to its settlement; and, second, US citizens in Lebanon must be evacuated, lest their lives be further endangered. Continue reading for more on the story, links and evacuation plans...

This issue aside and looking to an endgame, do you think Kofi and team will rush in and be a savior for a bad situation gone worse? Will UN troops on the southern border of Lebanon make a difference? Silly people, you're in for a big surprise - the UN has been there for years

Right now the UN has 2,000 international troops deployed in Southern Lebanon to enforce and patrol the the border established when Israel withdrew in 2000, and so far have been a dismal failure! Yet, somehow, there are people foolish enough to believe that they will make a difference, even though Hezbollah would remain intact.
