'Lab-made sperm' fertility hope?
Topics: Medicine
[Image: Baby born from 28 year-old sperm produced in lab (sic)]
Scientists say that they have proved for the first time that sperm grown from embryonic stem cells can be used to produce offspring, and the discovery in mice could ultimately help couples affected by male fertility problems to conceive. They even go further, saying that by understanding embryo developmental processes better, a host of other diseases might be treated using stem cells.
And there were only "minor" problems: First of all, these were mice, not people. Lastly, but by no means, "leastly"- the mice showed abnormal patterns of growth, and other problems, such as difficulty breathing.
"Abnormal patterns of growth, and other problems, such as difficulty breathing"? No biggie, you might end up looking like the baby in the image, and you may have to go through life hooked up to IPPB equipment, but otherwise, you'll be fine.
I know, I promised no more trivia today.... I really mean it this time!
