Fighting for the Cause of Allah (Jihaad)
Topics: Understanding Islam... in the past few decades, if you look at all the sources of violence, they have all been touched by, or emerged from, Bedouin Islam. What I mean is that they have been touched by the Puritanism of Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab, (the 18th-century founder of Wahhabism). ...his ideas were married to Saudi resources, and therefore have become an enormous problem...In your spare time, read this translation of Sahih Bukhari, Book 52 at the University of Southern California MSA compendium of Muslim texts that addresses Jihaad (Jihad). This Bedouin mentality also contributes to the radical anti-rationalism (of the extremists). In all the violent movements today, we witness the idea that rationalism is the instrument of the Devil, and is fundamentally evil. You find that all (the leading terrorist ideologues) have been influenced by a black-and-white concept: that all people fall either into the category of good or the category of bad... - Dr Khaled Abou El Fadl, "The Great Theft: Wrestling Islam From The Extremists."
After reading all of it, I came away in wonder as to how anyone could, even in their wildest imagination, consider such violence as having anything whatsoever to do with God, peace, love, or spiritual pursuit - and that these people that believe in this crap have got to be nuts! And therein lies the problem. Islamists do indeed believe this, they have wild imaginations, and in their hearts and minds and souls, are compelled to hate someone, all of the time, hence the Arab tribal mentality and the constant Muslim on Muslim violence around the world. Of course, therein lies the problem; Islamists indeed have a wild imagination, love to hate, believe that they please God by committing acts of violence against their imagined enemies (imagined in the sense that they are obsessed with hating and fighting someone, and are easily led like sheep to slaughter by religious leaders that convince them to do otherwise is to be an infidel, and all of this is based on the interpretations of Quranic meanings by warped human beings), and following their tribal/bedouin-like mentality are always "following the herd."
As for Muslim on non-Muslim violence, non-Muslims are an easy mark to hate - we're not in the "tribe," we believe the concept of jihad to be anathema to the very idea of peace and love, and we think the Muslims that believe everything in the Koran to be nothing short of nuts!
To most secular Muslims, the term 'jihad' means to strive personally against one's desires and to strive for success in one's life. But to radicals, like the Islamists of the world, it means "holy war in the way of Allah," and that they have to fight against kaffir (non-believer) people and help each other. As we see in Iraq, where the Sunnis are killing the Shi'ites and the Shi'ites are killing the Sunnis - all with absolute abandon with no end in site, there are a great many Muslims who follow the "holy war in the way of Allah" ideology.
