Europe Is Potential Target For Hezbollah Terror Attacks

Topics: Terrorism

Olivier Guitta writes today at The Counterterrorism Blog that France and Germany are especially worried about the potential implications of the Hezbollah-Syria-Iran vs Israel war.

... German security services are on the lookout for a potential Hezbollah terror campaign because of the heavy precense of Hezbollah cells and Syrian secret service within Germany. The fact that Europe is viewed by Iran as endorsing the Israeli counterattack, might push the mullahs to order their proxies to hit European cities.

... even though President Chirac has been quick to criticize Israel's response, he has nonetheless been forceful in calling for disarming Hezbollah.

... Hezbollah has already a history of attacking Paris: in 1986 a terror campaign ordered by Iran and using Hezbollah operatives killed 13 and injured hundreds.

... French security services are worried of a possible redux: in fact Hezbollah operatives had flown in from Lebanon, used homegrown cells for logistics and flew back after the bombings.

And in a juxtapositional note, Kenneth Timmerman at FrontPage magazine.com says to make no mistake about the nearly month-old hot war between Hezbollah and Israel. This is the opening salvo of Iran's global assault on the United States and its allies over Iran's "right" to possess nuclear weapons.

We should also make no mistake about the relationship between Iran and Hezbollah. Iran finances, arms, trains, and directs Hezbollah's every action. The links are clear - Iran is still chief terror-controller and supporter in the world and is calling the shots, literally, in Gaza and Lebanon. Iran arms and controls Shi'ite factions in Iraq who murder as efficiently as their Sunni Iraqi counterparts, and Iran has been behind Hezbollah attacks in the Middle East, South America, Europe, and Africa. To believe other than that, as Olivier Guitta suggests, Iran would attack France and Germany via Hezbollah, would be both foolhardy and blind to the facts of history.
